A woman in Kansas City went to pick up her vehicle after repairs were done, after being told she needed to pay $3k up front and that she would owe another $700 for storage fees if she left it there, she got in her car and drove away without paying.
An employee who witnessed this, jumped on top of her Cadillac Escalade and held onto the roof rack for 3 miles, some of which was on the Interstate (I-70).
Allegedly another employee who seen what had happened was following the woman and tried to shoot out her tires. The incident ended outside Kansas City police headquarters.

Wonder what she's going to be charged with? Probably won't be getting off easy either way.

It may depend on if charges get pressed.

There's a pretty high chance that charges will get pressed. Reckless endangerment probably.

They were shooting at her, she feared for her life, no charges filed. The money for the repairs is a civil matter.

As much as I'd love to ride on the roof of an Escalade, I'm sure the guy up there wasn't exactly very happy to be up there.
Not paying $3,000 for the repairs is also felony larceny if I'm not mistaken.

One employee was hanging onto it, another employee was shooting lol. By the way, this was Kansas City, MO not KS.
Here's another article.

I took my car in for service yesterday, and I had to get something out of it while paying for it.
I thought my myself, I could so easily just get in it and go - the keys were in the ignition.
But, I have a moral compass and the bill was $60, so I paid for it.
This time...

I took my truck in to the dealer where I bought it from to have the transmission and radiator replaced for $3k. - Long story short, I went to a Dodge dealer with my clear title, had a key cut, when to the dealer that had my truck and drove off in it.
2 weeks later I received a bill with 'Paid in Full' stamped on it. Never cost me a nickel.

The police don't and can't get involved in every monetary dispute over goods and or services. I should have added that my comment wasn't necessarily what I think should happen but it's what I think will happen. Money buys Escalades, it also buys good lawyers. Once they started shooting at her on a public highway, they gave her lawyers all the justification needed. She was scared for her life when the man jumped on her roof and her lawyers will claim that she was rightfully in fear for her life as evidenced by the fact that the employees tried to kill her on the highway. Again, I can't stress enough that this is just my opinion on how things work and how I see it playing out. I do believe that the right way to handle this would have been to let her go and file a lien on the Escalade but it wasn't handled the right way by anyone involved.

I agree that nobody handled the situation properly, But from the article it appears that the first shop worker climbed onto the roof preceding the shots that were fired from the worker in the other vehicle. If it were my choice, I'd charge the 2nd worker with "Unlawful use of weapons."
"(9) Discharges or shoots a firearm at or from a motor vehicle, as defined in section 301.010 , discharges or shoots a firearm at any person, or at any other motor vehicle, or at any building or habitable structure, unless the person was lawfully acting in self-defense."
The worker in the second car wasn't acting in self defense for his own personal well being. If the man on the roof of the Escalade was able to get a secure grip and manage to call 911 when the driver couldn't or didn't, then he wasn't in as much danger as speculated by whoever was shooting at the Escalade. In my personal opinion, Shooting at the Escalade was a horrible idea.
Either way, It is still felony larceny for driving away after refusing to pay for the repairs. As you said, It may be a civil matter but I doubt that she would have paid for them either way. There are plenty of cheap Escalades, and lawyers out there but I'd like to follow this story to see how it plays out. I'd charge the driver of the Escalade with reckless endangerment at minimum for sure though.

I agree with what you say. I'd love to be able to follow the story as well but the follow up on the driver will most likely just be a little blip buried somewhere or an aside to the shooter being convicted. While the shooting was certainly well after she drove away, it gives credibility to the opinion (that the lawyer would present in court) that she feared for her life at the repair shop (the shooter showed her his weapon and threatened her) which is why she drove away with the other man on top. Even though it most surely didn't happen that way, it's how a "good" lawyer would frame it to get her off. People get away with much harsher things. Let us never forget Ethan Couch, the affluenza kid. If you happen to run across any follow up info in the future, please let me know and I'll do the same.

Thanks, I'll make sure to tell you if I manage to find an update!
I also wonder if there were any surveillance cameras that might have caught what started the situation. It's hard to take sides though, All three of the people who were involved were in the wrong somehow.
I agree that people manage to get away with much harsher things, 10 years in probation for killing 4 pedestrians? That's just flat out not right.

I'm not sure about the long version but the short version makes you seem like the bad guy of the story. I guess something critical words are missing.

Well yea some important facts like being told "it will be taken care of", "wrote off for pr", "she no longer works here" and me responding "my lawyer said". I can go into detail but that's the down and dirty of it.

And that is why every smart garage keeps the key locked up until they receive payment.

Well then, I think that her bringing the spare with her shows intent to steal her car back, does it not?

I would assume she intended to steal it when she got in the seat and drove off. lol

I mean the fact that she brought the spare key to the garage in the first place shows that the theft may have been premeditated.
